15 3/4" Viola by Roger Hansell, 1992

£21,000.00

LABEL:

Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi / in Milano 1760
(Internally signed R D Hansell 1992 on the back)

MEASUREMENTS:

Back Length: 400mm / Upper Bout: 189mm / C Bout: 128mm / Lower Bout: 237mm / String Length: 360mm

HISTORY:

This instrument was commissioned for a professional violist who was looking for a ‘deep, rich, round sound with the ability to project’. After some research Roger Hansell found a Landolfi viola that was in the collection of the Royal Academy of Music at the time, that matched the description of the clients brief. The Landolfi was slightly longer than the player wanted so Roger adapted the model to a slightly shorter body length than the original, but was able to maintain the same volume of space inside the instrument. The result is a beautiful sounding viola, that produces a tone exactly as originally commissioned.
