Cello by Nicolas Darche, Brussels, 1840
Like many luthiers of the time, Nicolas Darche (b.1815 – d.1873), was trained in the well known instrument making region of Mirecourt. Brother of Joseph and Charles Francois Darche, Nicolas was employed by N. F. Vuillaume in Brussels until 1841 when he established himself in Aix-La-Chapelle/Aachen, the tri-border region of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
