Thomas Powell worked with William Forster, before establishing his own workshop on Clements Lane from 1770.

This cello is an excellent example of his work. It has a very well balanced, rich and mellow tone with good projection.

MEASUREMENTS:

Back length 735mm / Upper bout 342mm / Lower Bout 423mm / String length 679mm

Sold with a John Dilworth certificate (2018), as the work of Thomas Powell made in London c.1810

“The back is of two matched pieces of semi-slab sawn maple showing a light horizontal figure in the upper and middle bouts. The ribs are marked with a regular upright medium flame, and the scroll is plain."
